One of the keys to connecting with your audience on a blog is making it as personal as possible. In the video above, Kevin walks through two plugins he is using to make each post on his blog more personal by including both an image signature, and a photo.
In this case, he is using two plugins to add the personalization to each of his blog posts. By simply selecting the post footer he wants from the dropdown list, it is automatically inserted into the WordPress post without doing any additional formatting.
One of the plugins he uses is Social Author Bio. This plugin not only adds an avatar photo, but also gives the ability to add a short bio along with a series of icons to connect to the various social networks the author belongs to.
As an additional benefit this plugin also allows the custom post footer to connect with Google+ to support Google Authorship by adding the rich snippets needed to expose the blog post author to Google.
Google Authorship is a great way to improve your readership by not only providing an indented search listing with your name and photo, but also linking to all of your blog posts and articles published under that authorship.
This gives readers and searchers the opportunity to not only find your current blog, but also posts you have made in the past whether or not they are on the same blog.
If you a doing guest blog posts on other blogs, this gives additional exposure for you and the other blogs.
The second plugin, Add Post Footer is the overall wrapper that adds both the signature line to the post and the Social Author Bio box.
